This line is really effective when it comes to catching the audiences attention. The fact that this is a really really unhealthy way to lose weight is shocking in itself but also the fact that this is actually what some people in the fashion world will actually do in order to lose weight. 

Emily, the character that says this line is already really thin in the first place. This also shocks the audience. 

It is also supposed to have a comedic element to it. Emily is already thin, but in order to be a an ideal model size, she needs to lose even more weight which looks impossible.
